Flush your files!
Spring 2022
An app to delete (flush) your computer files as a metaphor for digital immortality. If you delete a photo, the file will never be fully gone: parts will always be floating around somewhere, ready to be pulled back by anyone with regrets or wanting to capitalise it. One would have to physically destroy all the places your files and data are stored to be sure it is gone. Unlike your recycle bin, this is a one way trip.
>>> upload an image
>>> click ‘flush!’
and empty your hard drive bit by bit by sending it through the drain

this project is a result of an unraveling research into digital loss and the immortality of data. When someone is dead, they lose the (privacy) rights over their data, so anything you left on the web can be taken advantage of. Secondly, nothing ever gets erased. Over time, creating a mountain of ‘ghost data’ (data of the deceased) which takes up physical space on our planet with its ever growing population. This is only the tip of an iceberg of information which I am doing further research into.
